In order to achieve the whole-person education for our students, the University of Macau (UM) will fully implement the Residential College (RC) scheme. A Residential College is a small on-campus staff-student learning community that integrates students’ learning and life and that aims to promote their whole-person development. In 2014/2015 academic year, 8 Residential Colleges have been put into operation while each Residential College can accommodate 400-500 students. New undergraduate students admitted in 2015/2016 academic year will be placed to stay at the Residential Colleges for one academic year.
Students who are admitted in 2014/2015 and onwards will not only need to achieve 2.0 (cGPA) in academic performance, but also to fulfil the requirements specified by the Residential College system and the affiliated Residential College as graduation requirement. Complementing the formal curricula and classroom instruction, the Residential College living experience provides a unique opportunity for students to acquire all sorts of soft skills, such as ability to self-manage, self-discipline, self-reflect, to work as a team player, to serve as a leader, to read the world with a global perspective and to integrate knowledge from different disciplines.
Equally important is the opportunity for students to live, to play, to interact, to compete and to grow with other members of the college from various backgrounds in culture, language, family, education and personality, which will result in an ability to tolerate, respect and embrace differences, all of which are essential to harmonious and successful career development in the 21st Century.
As one of the four components of the 4-in-1 education at the University of Macau– disciplinary education, general education, research and internship education, peer and community education – the experiential residential college living and learning experience as embodied in the peer and community education will be successfully enhanced if new students actively participate and engage in such opportunities. Hence, the University sincerely invites new students to join and live in our Residential College.
Residential College Allotment
The allotment of RC will be arranged by the University and all new students must observe to regulations concerned. The allotment result of RC will be notified individually before mid August 2015 by the your RC (please check your email accordingly). Residential College Waiver Application
The UM Four-in-One Educational model requires all freshmen to reside in the college to which they are assigned. Under certain rare circumstances it is possible to apply for waiver of RC requirements, either a "full waiver" or a "partial waiver". A "full waiver" will include both RC residence and RC requirements.
A "full waiver" may apply to adults who fall into one of the categories below:

Please note that once a "partial waiver" is approved a student does not have to reside in the College, but he or she remains a non-resident member of the college and must fulfill four years of "RC requirements" before graduation will be possible.
