A delegation led by Yu Weiguo, provincial party secretary of Fujian and director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Fujian province, today (10 October) visited the University of Macau (UM). The delegation was warmly received by UM University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng, Rector Yonghua Song, and Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Lionel Ni. Both parties had a meeting to discuss the academic and research developments in Fujian and Macao, as well as the development of Chinese medical sciences and technologies related to smart city management. Yu praised UM for its effort in promoting collaboration with the industry, student training, and scientific research. He hopes that universities in Fujian and Macao will increase collaboration in industrialisation, teaching, and research. During a meeting with mainland students at UM, Yu encouraged the students to grasp opportunities offered by UM for innovation and entrepreneurship. The delegation visited UM’s State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (QRCM Lab). Wang Yitao, director of UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and director of the QRCM Lab, told the guests about UM’s achievements in the field in recent years and projects jointly initiated by UM and Fujian universities. The delegation also visited the Smart City Joint Laboratory. UM members who accompanied the guests during the visit included Institute of Collaborative Innovation Interim Director Jerome Yen, Rector’s Office Director Carol Wong, and Global Affairs Office Director Cindy Lam.
