Lionel Ni, vice rector (academic affairs) of the University of Macau (UM), recently attended the Privacy Week 2018 at the invitation of the Office for Personal Data Protection. He gave a keynote speech at a seminar on privacy protection and creating conditions that are conducive to business operation. During the talk, Ni said that Macao enjoys many advantages compared to other cities, and cautioned against a wholesale adoption of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulations in Macao. He urged the Macao SAR government to promote the development of the data industry through legislation and create a privacy-friendly smart city.
