To be in line with the direction of Macao SAR Government’s “Green Vehicle” promotion and in a bid to well set a preparatory stage for future development, CEM joins hands with the University of Macau (UM) to conduct research studies of Electric Vehicle (EV). A protocol signing ceremony was held on 17 May 2010 at CEM Coloane Power Plant. It was officiated by CEM Executive Director João Travassos da Costa and UM Vice-Rector (Research) Prof. Rui Martins. Other guests included UM Faculty of Science and Technology Chair Professor and Dean Prof. Philip Chen and Head of Department of Electromechanical Engineering Prof. Wong Pak Kin, CEM Special Project Senior Manager Peres Diniz and Communications and Public Affairs Senior Manager Iun Iok Meng.

The zero-emission EV is one of the top choicesamong various types of Green Vehicle. CEM recently brought in an EV and set up two charging stations in CEM Building at Estrada D. Maria II and at the Coloane Power Plant as a pilot test.

Dr. Herman Ching, Assistant Professor from UM Faculty of Science and Technology Department of Electromechanical Engineering, gave a brief presentation on the EV study scope during the ceremony. There will be two study projects covering “The implementation of EV charging station for CEM” and “The pilot test of EV performance in Macao”. Both studies will be ended on 31 December 2010. UM will deliver a report based on the findings to CEM. Right after the signing ceremony, a test drive was arranged for the media to experience the quietness and performance of the new EV.
