The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) today (30 August) held a conference to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Journal of Macau Studies and a ceremony to present CMS appointment letters. During the event, UM Rector Yonghua Song presented appointment letters to 34 experts and scholars, who will work as part-time teaching staff members in the CMS to promote academic activities and policy studies in Macao and provide suggestions for the sustainable development of the city.

In his speech, Song said that the Journal of Macau Studies publishes foremost social studies, policy analyses, and surveys about Macao in the past 30 years, documenting social dialogues that took place during major historic changes. The research team for Macao studies has greatly expanded over the past 30 years and is currently comprised of experts and scholars in various fields, including arts and humanities, social sciences, education, management, law, and engineering. Guests at the ceremony included Wu Zhiliang, president of the Board of Directors of the Macao Foundation; Yang Yunzhong, a professor from the Macao Polytechnic Institute’s One Country Two Systems Research Center, and Agnes Lam, director of the CMS.

The event also included seminars on various topics, including integration of barrier-free facilities in smart city development, Macao’s tourism industry, and the reconstruction of Macaology.
