The Social Science Research Center for Contemporary China of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau is holding an International Symposium on National Identity and Future Cross-Strait Relations between Mainland China and Taiwan. Venue: STDM Auditorium, International Library, University of Macau. Time: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, December 16 and 17.

Over fifty scholars from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, and Singapore will participate in the conference, including Richard Baum, Hermann Castilho, Chen Kuan-Hsing, T. J. Cheng, Chien Hsi-Chieh, Chien Yung-Xiang, Lowell Dittmer, Edward Friedman, Ger Yeong-Kuang, He Baogang, Ieong Wan Chong, Li Ming-Jun, Liu Bolong, Gordon Mathews, Shaw Chong Hai, Wang Kungyi, Wu Jiaxiang, Yang Hsien-Tsun, Herbert Yee, Zhang Guanhua, Zhu Xianlong.

Topics discussed include identity issues in Taiwan, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, as well as possible future political arrangements between Taiwan and mainland China. Simultaneous translation provided. All are welcome.
