Students from the University of Macau (UM) Department of Communication recently won five prizes for two of their publications, namely the 2015 spring issue of Umac Bridges and Communicator 2015: Turning Page, at China Daily Campus Newspaper Awards 2015.

Paper Crane Production, the production team of the 2015 spring issue of Umac Bridges, received four prizes in the English category, including a first prize in the Best in Headline Writing category for the article titled ‘Staying Weak: A Non-Resident Worker’s Story’, a first prize in the Best in News Page Design (Online Voting) category for the story titled ‘Before Sunrise’, the Best in Multimedia Website award, and a second prize in the Best in Overall Design category. The editorial board of Communicator 2015: Turning Page received the first prize in the Chinese category’s Best in Overall Design category. Both publications were produced by fourth-year students from the Department of Communication. Their work was supervised by Prof Wu Mei and Dr Lei Chin Pang.

Organised by the China Daily Hong Kong Edition, this year’s competition received 611 entries from 26 universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The award ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. UM student Johnson Chao, Sandra Lei, Cody Iong, Joyce Kwok, Ivy Cheong and the editors-in-chief of the two student publications Gloria Mak and Davis Ip attended the event.
