Library English: Commonly Used Expressions in the Library, a book co-edited by Dr. Paul W.T. Poon, Librarian of the University of Macau and Prof. Chen Zhao-Neng, former University Librarian of Shanghai Jiaotong University, has become a hot seller. The book has been sold out soon after they went off the press at the end of 2006. Due to the continuing demand from libraries in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the book is now being reprinted. Since its publication, the book has positively reviewed in a number of professional journals, such as the Journal of East Asian Libraries (USA), the Australian Academic & Research Libraries (Australia), the Library and Information Service (Chinese Mainland) and the Electronic Bulletin of the Library Association (Taiwan).

To help the frontline staff in libraries to serve their English-speaking users effectively by using simple but precise English, the book features a set of expressions commonly used in libraries, sections of “Self Evaluation” and “Situational Dialogue”, as well as an audio demonstration disc in both English and Putonghua.

A practical tool for librarians to improve English communication skills, the book is published in both traditional and simplified Chinese in consideration of the demands in different markets.
