The Faculty of Education (FED) of the University of Macau (UM) and the International Society for Comparative Physical Education and Sport (ISCPES) are going to organize the 16th Biennial Conference of the International Society for Comparative Physical Education and Sport at UM from 22 (Tue) to 26 July (Sat).

Established in 1978, the ISCPES is committed to support and promote comparative physical education and sports studies, encouraging cross-cultural and cross-national sports development. On the topic “Global Merging – A New Era for Sports and Physical Education”, the conference participants will discuss the new development trend in physical education. The organizers have also invited famous scholars to speak at the conference, including President of ISCPES Prof. Darwin Semotiuk, world-famous sportsman and sociologist Prof. Joseph Maguire, historian Prof. Gertrud Pfister, specialist in physical education Dr. Richard Light, Prof. Li Zhaohao from Tianjin University of Sport and Prof. Lu Yuanzhen from the South China Normal University.

The conference has attracted the participation of nearly 400 scholars from around the world and the submissions of over 200 research papers. It is sponsored by Macao Foundation, the Macau Sport Development Board, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Macau Government Tourist Office. Beijing Sport University and Tianjin University of Sport have respectively sent Prof. Ren Hai and Prof. Li Zhaohao to provide assistance. Air Macau, Henry Fok Foundation, BNU, Hou Kong Sports Club and Multinational Youth Travel Agency Ltd have also expressed their supports to this activity.

To ensure the exchange of thoughts and opinions among the participants, the conference will be conducted in both Chinese and English, and facilitated with Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation.
