The University of Macau’s Freshmen College (East) recently held its first High Table Dinner on the new campus. This was also the first High Table Dinner ever held on the new campus. Prof. Haydn Chen, vice rector for student affairs, was invited to be the guest speaker. Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Fan Xitao, Faculty of Arts and Humanity Dean Prof. Martin Montgomery, and Pearl Jubilee College Master Prof. George Watt also attended the event.

The students were all dressed up for the special occasion. After the students and guests were seated in the dining hall, Prof. Chung Ling, a renowned writer and master of the Freshman College (East), read an ancient Chinese poem from the Book of Songs, along with all the students.

Prof. Haydn Chen explained the “4-in-1” mode of education and what he thinks the students should learn from the college with an interesting YouTube video. He closed his speech with several thought-provoking questions.

The Freshman College (East) is one of the first two residential colleges on the new campus. Each residential college at UM is a close-knit living and learning community that aims to help students achieve well-rounded development.
