The 27th Portuguese Language and Culture Summer Programme, organised by the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), will close on 26 July. The closing ceremony will take place at UM’s Cultural Centre at 6:30pm. This year approximately 320 students from different Asian countries and regions, including mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, participated in the programme.

The programme aims to spread knowledge of the Portuguese language and culture. This year’s courses are taught at four levels: beginner’s level, basic level, intermediate level, and advanced level. Apart from regular classes and practices, the organiser also arranged various cultural and recreational activities for the participants, such as seminars, movies, drawing classes and Portuguese folk dances, and museum visits, etc.

The fact that the programme attracted many students from different Asian countries and districts just reflects Macao’s important role as the bridge of cultural exchange between the east and the west. Moreover, the programme also provided an excellent opportunity for participants to learn more about the social, economic, political and cultural aspects of Macao.
