According to the latest instructions from Chui Sai On, chief executive of Macao SAR and chancellor of UM, UM will move to the new campus in stages. According to the current plan, a number of laboratories will be moved to the new campus during the first semester of the 2013/2014 academic year. Approximately 2,000 staff and students will move to the residential areas of the new campus in stages during the summer break. Some of the master’s degree courses, postgraduate certificate courses, general education courses and physical education courses will be conducted on the new campus starting the next academic year. About half of the university-level administrative units and academic support units will move as well to provide support. The purpose of moving to the new campus in batches is to minimise the impact on teaching and research activities as well as on the staff and students’ life. Therefore, during the first semester of the next academic year, teaching of most of the courses will still be conducted on the current campus. The remaining departments and units will move to the new campus in batches during the winter break. It is hoped that all teaching activities can take place on the new campus starting the second semester of the next academic year.
