The University of Macau’s (UM) Honours College (HC) held the Second Undergraduate Honours Project Symposium before the semester ended. 45 Class of 2013 HC students, expected to graduate this summer, presented their individual undergraduate academic research projects.

The Undergraduate Honours Project Symposium is one of the biggest events of HC. The symposium aims to provide a platform for senior HC students to give oral presentations, exchange ideas, and exhibit their honours projects. A wide range of research topics covering different areas of studies, including theories and applications in business administration, applications and analysis of Macao laws and international laws, engineering and mathematical theories and their applications, theoretical studies and development of education in the local community, as well as theoretical studies and applications in the areas of psychology, sociology, linguistics, public administration research, were discussed.

In addition to presentation of research projects, project posters produced by students were also exhibited in a showroom opposite the presentation venues. Students said that in the past year they were fully occupied with academic commitments and research projects, but they received guidance from their project supervisors and support from their parents and classmates, which helped them to grow at both personal and academic levels, and which they believe will continue to benefit them in their future studies and work. HC also encouraged them to seek opportunities to present their projects at conferences and publish their studies in refereed journal as a co-author with their supervisors, because such experiences will broaden their horizons and give them a competitive edge for future studies and career development.
