Recently, the University of Macau (UM) held an international workshop on scientific computing. The workshop was hosted by UM’s Department of Mathematics and attracted numerous experts and scholars from around the world, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the U.K., and the U.S. The purpose of the workshop is to promote scientific computing and the Department of Mathematics’ research interest, and to increase its international reputation in the field of scientific computing.

In his speech, UM Rector Wei Zhao updated the attendees on the latest development of the university and invited them to put forward suggestions for UM’s new campus project and visit the new campus after it is built.

Attendees included Chinese Academy of Sciences member Prof. Shi Zhongci, Vice-President of Hong Kong Baptist University (Academic) Prof. Franklin Luk, recipient of the Feng Kang Prize of Science Computing and the Morningside award and Chair Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Prof. Raymond H.
