Prof. Wu Mei, of the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), won the 2011 Academic Prize of China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) with her book Pushing Hands: Viral Marketing on Chinese Internet. Master student of Communication and New Media Wang Qinglin won the Best Student Paper Prize of CNMCA with her paper entitled “Analysis of New Media’s Role in Political Communication in China”, written with guidance from Dr. Li Xiaoqin.

CNMCA is the only national academic association specialized in new media communication studies. Its annual conference represents the highest quality research in the field. Each year CNMCA awards one academic prize to the best publication of the year in the field, one best paper prize and two best student paper prizes to participants of its annual conference. Approximately one hundred and thirty papers entered this year’s competition. The academic committee is composed of well-known professors and experts from sixteen universities and colleges, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, the People’s University of China, Fudan University, and the Communication University of China.

At the conference, Prof. Wu Mei delivered a keynote speech entitled “Marshall Mcluhan in China: Analysis of China’s Communication Sector from Marshall Mcluhan’s Perspective”, in memory of the centenary of the birth of this master in communication.

This year’s CNMCA annual conference was hosted by the South China University of Technology, and the next one will be hosted by UM.
