Dr. Zhao Jing, a postdoctoral fellow of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) and the State Key Laboratory for Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, University of Macau (UM), has received a travel award for attending the 36th International Symposium on High Performance Liquid Phase Separations and Related Techniques (HPLC2011) in Hungary. Out of the more than 1000 participants, only 5 persons received this travel award provided by the California Separation Science Society (CASSS).
The fact that Dr. Zhao has received this prestigious honour is testament to UM’s effectiveness in postdoctoral training and also shows that UM’s ICMS and the state key laboratory have the ability to train high-quality academic personnel that meet international standards.
The conference is one of the oldest and largest international conferences in the field of analytical chemistry. Since the first conference held in Switzerland in 1973, the HPLC Symposia series have been held alternately in North America, Europe and Asia at least once a year. This year’s conference was held in Budapest, Hungary, during 19-23 June. The travel award granted to Dr. Zhao and four other participants out of a total of over 1000 participants is provided by CASSS. CASSS is an international non-profit chromatography discussion group that sponsors international scientific symposia and provides educational networking opportunities for excellent young scientists in separation science.
Dr. Zhao’s research area is sustainable utilization of natural resources for Chinese medicines, which is crucial for the research and development of Chinese medicines. Dr. Zhao is the author of more than twenty-four papers and three books and book chapters. She has also received five academic honours in China. In addition to the travel award from CASSS, Dr. Zhao has also received a travel grant from the Eurasia Pacific Uninet for participating in an academic activity in Austria.
