In many parts of the world all leading universities have one thing in common: providing the best undergraduate education for local elites. As the generally recognized best university in Macao, the University of Macau (UM) must also fulfill this mission. To this end, UM will focus efforts on providing quality undergraduate education, including implementing a comprehensive range of reforms, optimizing undergraduate programmes, incorporating global perspective into all undergraduate programmes, increasing general-knowledge-related courses, launching undergraduate research programmes, and setting up Honours College. The purpose of these initiatives is to promote whole-person education, nurture outstanding talents of high integrity, global perspective and leadership abilities, and develop UM into one of the favorite choices for students and parents in Greater China.

Honours College is one of the best ways for many world-renowned universities to improve undergraduate education. In order to optimize the undergraduate programmes and provide the best education to elite students, UM has set up the first Honours College in Macao with the purpose of nurturing elites and future leaders. Honours College will target academically inclined and diligent students and devote huge resources to provide them with a colorful campus life, rigorous yet innovation-inspiring learning environment, and opportunities to participate in various horizon-broadening international exchange activities.

To align with the "quality undergraduate education" strategy, UM will organize colorful extracurricular activities to let students show their talents to the fullest extent. Every year UM students will have various opportunities to participate in major competitions at the international or regional level. Such activities will not only broaden students' horizon and let them learn more about the world beyond Macao but will also improve their leadership abilities, team spirit and a sense of social responsibility.
