- Wonderful Life in Colleges--Pilot Residential College Program
In the new campus in Hengqin Island, 10 to 12 residential colleges will be established. The “Residential College System” is widely adopted by renowned universities in the world, such as University of Oxford, Cambridge University, Yale University, Princeton University, Harvard University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc.
Students in the Colleges will have close interactions and exchange activities with their fellow students as well as resident teachers, which will realize the spirit of cultivation of character, team spirit and whole person development.
To allow current students to enjoy the excitement and advantages of living in a residential college, we are pleased to announce that “Wonderful Life in Colleges - The Residential College Pilot Program” will be launched and 2 Colleges named Erudition College and Perseverance College will be established at East Asia Hall and Block III in the 1st semester of 2010/2011 academic year.
1. Service Description
The University believes that dormitory life is a key to
accomplishing the total education for students. Indeed,
the Student Dormitory is a special aspect of university
education. Not only is the dormitory a place where students
stay and study, it is also a positive environment where
students integrate their intellectual, social and emotional
development and inspire one another in their learning and
research through social activities.
2. Eligible Students
Student Dormitory mainly provides accommodations to non-local students. Students may apply for student dormitory during the academic year by filling out the Application
Form for Dormitory Accommodation.
Application Procedure:
After filling in the application form, please send it to the Student Affairs Section by hand-in, mail, email or fax. For accommodation priority, please refer to Student Dormitory Rules.
* Only E-form will be accepted during the mass application period for dormitory of next academic year.
3. Facilities (commencing from 2009/2010 academic year)
There are a total of 1,927 accommodations in Block 3, East Asia Hall (on-campus dormitory) Pak Lok Garden , Orchid Tower and Hoi Wan Garden (off-campus dormitory). Student Affairs Section manages the Student Dormitory and the Functional Head of Student Dormitory Service is in charge of its daily operations. All rooms are fully furnished and air-conditioned. Dormitory students are entitled to the use of communal facilities, including the TV rooms, study rooms and laundry on campus. The University has a gymnasium and students may use the facilities there by making pre-bookings.

Dormitory fees are calculated on semester basis. Both charges do not include the meals. For details about the commencement of each academic year, please refer to

According to Article 4 clause 3 of Student Dormitory Rules, each semester is divided into four periods for dormitory fees calculation or dormitory fees refund. The calculations are as follows:

(Student Affairs Section sets the dates for each period of the first and second semesters in accordance with the academic calendar prior to the commencement of each academic year. It will be announced in the beginning of each academic year.)
Note: Any dormitory residents who damage or lose any dormitory facilities or equipment during their stay must make restitution to UM.
