Vision Statement

The University of Macau, as a public university in the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, aims to become a leading university in the country and in South East Asia. Through excellence in teaching and research it aims to provide opportunities of higher learning at an international standard, producing all-round graduates with the potential to become pillars of the Macao Special Administrative Region as well as serving in the Mainland and in the global community.

Mission

To conduct research for the advancement of knowledge and in support of teaching, and to expand research human resources by increasing the number of research students.

Development Goals and Strategies

Broad research profile in support of teaching

Both teaching and research are core missions of UM. It is through emphasis on both teaching and research that a university can nurture talent, create knowledge, and contribute to the community. High quality research will also advance the scholarship of academic staff and can attract eminent professors to join UM, a factor which, in turn, underpins the quality of teaching.
