Dear Colleagues, Students and Alumni,

Today, I assume the office of the eighth Rector of the University of Macau. Thank you for placing your trust in me to lead this fine university.

Since accepting the appointment in April 2008, I have met with the University Council, administration leadership team, and representatives of the faculty, staff, and students, who have conveyed to me their knowledge of the University history, accomplishments, and developments.

I am pleased to note that after 27 years, the University of Macau has already gained a reputation for outstanding teaching and research performance in the region. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the former Rectors, especially, former Rector Prof. Iu, for the strong foundation that they established. We will continue to build on our strengths, rising to meet the challenges before us, bolstered by the dedication and contributions of our predecessors.

It is my greatest honor to assume the leadership of the University at this time of transformation. It is time for us to embrace this new era, appreciate the successes we have already made while working harder for an even better future. I am fully confident that in the days to come, we will be able to expand campus infrastructures, strengthen research programs, and improve teaching quality. We will also endeavor to promote our partnerships and collaborative networks and enhance our international reputation, making the University of Macau a leading university in the country and beyond.
