UM Vice Rector Lionel Ni urges government to promote privacy protection in smart city project by legislation
Lionel Ni, vice rector
(academic affairs) of the University of Macau (UM), recently attended the
Privacy Week 2018 at the invitation of the Office for Personal Data Protection.
He gave a keynote speech at a seminar on privacy protection and creating
conditions that are conducive to business operation. During the talk, Ni said
that Macao enjoys many advantages compared to other cities, and cautioned
against a wholesale adoption of the European Union’s General Data Protection
Regulations in Macao. He urged the Macao SAR government to promote the development
of the data industry through legislation and create a privacy-friendly smart
