Huang Zeyu, a PhD student from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Law (FLL), recently received a third prize at the Fifth ‘Zhong Lun Cup’ Research Paper Competition on International Commercial Arbitration, for his paper titled ‘Institutionalization of Ad Hoc Arbitration in Mainland China: The Proposal for A Multi-Tiered Test’. Huang has also been invited to participate in the 2017 Chinese Youth Seminar on Arbitration to share his opinions on arbitration in mainland China.

The paper focuses on the latest development of ad hoc arbitration in mainland China, especially in the pilot free trade zones. It will be published in the well-known international journal International Arbitration Law Review. Huang’s supervisor is Prof Tu Guangjian from the FLL.

This year’s competition was co-organised by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Renmin University of China, the All-China Lawyers Association, and Beijing Lawyers Association. A total of 107 research papers were received. Huang’s paper was one of the two awarded papers written in English.
