The Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre and the Research Centre for Luso-Asian Studies, under the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities, will jointly hold a seminar titled ‘Methods of Language Documentation’ from 27 August to 3 September. The seminar will be conducted by Prof Hugo Cardoso from the University of Lisbon and will cover relevant basic theories and practices of language documentation.

Language documentation refers to the collection and treatment of language samples, for the purpose of preserving knowledge and specific research agendas, accumulating educational resources, and many others. This course will teach essential tools to carry out linguistic documentation and will introduce tools and skills useful for research in linguistics as well as other disciplines in the areas of humanities and social sciences.

The seminar will be conducted in English and is open to postgraduate students of linguistics, academic staff, and other interested participants from universities in Macao.
