The University of Macau (UM) today (20 August) awarded 137 prizes and scholarships to outstanding students, including those on the Rector’s Honour List, to encourage students to study hard.

Esther Li, a student from the Faculty of Law, received the Nam Kwong Education Scholarship. She said that the scholarship shows recognition of her achievements, adding that UM offers many exchange opportunities for students to broaden their horizons. Liu Gaole, a third-year student from the Department of Portuguese, who is a recipient of the Macau Foundation Scholarship, says that he received this scholarship thanks to UM’s rich academic resources, and the abundance books housed in the UM Library, which helps him acquire professional knowledge. Choi Chio Kuan, a third-year student from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, says that UM devotes considerable resources to scientific research and UM’s laboratories are equipped with many advanced facilities, adding that UM is an ideal place for scientific research.

UM this year will award over 60 scholarships and academic prizes, which are worth a total of MOP 4 million, to more than 400 students. Eight scholarships were presented at the convocation, namely the Macau Foundation Scholarship, Henry Fok Foundation Scholarship, the Bank of China Scholarship, Sands China Ltd Scholarship, Frank Wong Foundation Scholarship, Luso International Bank Scholarship, Luso International Bank Whole Person Development Scholarship, and Nam Kwong Education Scholarship.
