A delegation led by Huang Wei, vice minister of science and technology of China, today (7 November) visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by UM University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng, Rector Wei Zhao, Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Lionel Ni, and Vice Rector (Research) Rui Martins. This is the largest visit from the ministry to Macao in its history. During the visit, both parties discussed UM’s educational philosophy and latest developments in science and technology. Lam thanked the ministry for its continuous support to UM. Zhao told the guests about UM’s latest developments, academic structure, campus development, and future development directions. Ni told the guests about UM’s academic development and its new Centre for Innovation. Martins told the guests about UM’s development in scientific research, patent application, technology transfer, and the industrialisation of research results. Huang praised UM for its campus, research development, and the achievements of UM’s two state key laboratories. He encouraged UM to continue to nurture more outstanding professionals in scientific research and expressed hope that UM would continue to industrialise its research results. Huang added that the ministry will increase its funding to support the development of science and technology in Macao. Members of the delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine.
