The University of Macau (UM) Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) recently organised a trip to Teikyo University in Japan for its students to learn how to teach Mandarin. Led by College Associate Master Tony Chan, the students sat in on classes offered by Teikyo University’s Department of Language Studies to experience the teaching methods of Japanese universities and learn about the differences between Chinese and Japanese cultures. During their visit, a professor from the department told the students what they should pay attention to when teaching Mandarin. UM students also exchanged ideas with their Japanese counterparts. The MLC launched its ‘Bi-literacy and Tri-lingualism’ language learning policy in September 2016, with the aim of helping students enhance their language skills and their abilities to express themselves in an international environment.
