Content : UM will confer the Doctor of Letters honoris causa degree on Prof Jia Pingwa in recognition of his contributions to literature and novel writings. After the ceremony, Prof Jia will conduct a Doctor honoris causa Lecture titled “Contemporary Literary Writing in Chinese.” Jia Pingwa is the vice-president of the China Writers Association and president of the Shaanxi Writers Association, is a world famous contemporary writer. His representative works include novels Qin Qiang (Qin Opera), Ruined City, Turbulence, etc. His works have been translated into over twenty languages, such as English, French, German, Swedish, Russian, Japanese and Korean. Jia Pingwa won the Most Influential Chinese Writer Award in 2012 and was conferred L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013. He is one of the very few major Chinese writers who are firmly established in the canon of world literature.
