Shang Zhenru, a PhD student from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Law, recently received a first prize at the Seventh Cross-Straits Forum on Civil and Commercial Law, for his paper titled ‘On Civil Remedy against the Infringement upon the Right to Receive Education: From the Perspective of General Personality Right’. Another two master’s students from the faculty, namely Xia Fei and Hu Shouxin, both received a second prize for their papers, titled ‘Personality Right Can’t Be as A Separated Part in Chinese Civil Code’ and ‘Personality Right Designed as A Separate Part in Chinese Civil Code: From the Perspective of Civil Procedure Law’, respectively. This is the first time that students from Macao have received a prize at this forum.

Held at Jilin University with the theme being ‘Personality Rights and Codification of Civil Law in China’, the event attracted more than 60 experts, scholars, and students in the field of civil and commercial law. The forum was jointly initiated by the Renmin University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, the China University of Political Science and Law, Jilin University, Taiwan University, Fu Jen Catholic University, the City University of Hong Kong, and UM, with an aim to promote academic exchange among young students in the field of civil and commercial law.
