(27 March 2009, Macao) The International Conference on Economic Integration in the Greater China Region, organized by the Department of Economics and Social Science Research Centre on Contemporary China, both from the University of Macau, and the Chinese Economists Society (CES), will be held at the University of Macau on 29 and 30 March 2009.

The conference provides an excellent opportunity for scholars from all over the world to present their researches on the sources of economic growth in the Greater China Region, especially the influence of the global financial crisis on sustainable economic growth. Leading economists will be invited to deliver keynote speeches, including Prof. Robert Koopman, Chief Economist of the United States International Trade Commission, U.S.; Prof. Laurence Lau, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Prof. Chien-Fu Jeff Lin, Associate Dean of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science, National Taiwan University; Sir James Mirrlees, Distinguished Prof. of Economics of the University of Macau and the 1996 Nobel Laureate; Prof. Xiaolu Wang, Vice-Director of the National Economic Research Institute, China; Prof. Wing Thye Woo, UC Davis, U.S. and Prof. Yuxin Zheng, Vice-Director of the Institute of Quantitative and Technical Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China. Various important issues centered round economic integration will be addressed during the two-day conference, such as integration of capital markets, the determinants and role of trade and FDI, inter-regional market integration, spillovers of technology, productivity and long term economic growth, global financial markets, the implication of the current financial crisis for the Greater China region, etc.
