The quality of students admitted to the University of Macau (UM) is increasing every year. With the implementation of the "4-in-1" pedagogical model, which gives students the opportunity to receive whole-person education, the overall quality of students will continue to go up.

This month, UM held a Scholarship and Rector’s Honor List Presentation Ceremony to award outstanding students. This year UM awarded 375 scholarships and academic prizes totalling 6.27 million patacas from forty organizational and individual donors.

At the ceremony, more than seven hundred students were awarded prizes, in recognition of their excellent academic performance, active involvement in extra-curricular activities and service to junior students. Students on the UM Scholarship and Rector’s Honor List 2011/2012 were also awarded at the ceremony. The awardees included Wong Pou Keng, a marketing major from the Faculty of Business Administration; Chan Nim Ian, an English major from the Faculty of Education; Julio Miguel dos Anjos from the Faculty of Law; Ng Cen Ana, a Portuguese major from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Cheok Meng Fai, a civil engineering major from the Faculty of Science and Technology; and Chan Weng I, a biomedical sciences major from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences.

At the ceremony, UM Rector Wei Zhao congratulated the awardees and thanked the scholarship donors. Rector Wei Zhao noted in his speech that the "4-in-1" pedagogical model aims to help students develop their hard skills and soft skills through a multi-faceted approach so that in addition to acquiring professional knowledge and skills students can also possess good values and character, creativity and a strong sense of social responsibility. He also pointed out that UM will continue to improve its teaching and research quality through different channels and methods to cultivate more excellent students for the Macao society.
