UM presents long service awards in recognition of the recipients’ loyalty and devotion to the university

Lately UM presented long service awards to 204 staff, including 78 academic staff and 126 administrative staff, in recognition of the recipients’ loyalty and devotion to the university. The awards come in four categories based on the length of service: 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, and 30 years. Many award recipients said that they are happy to witness the achievements UM has attained and hope to see more achievements in the future.

In his speech, UM Rector Wei Zhao said: “UM has nurtured well over 10,000 graduates over these 30 years. Dear colleagues, you have helped contribute to develop this university and transform it into what it is today. You have done a marvelous job! Ladies and gentlemen, it's by all accounts an extraordinary feat for someone like you to have been working for an institution for 15 years, 20 years, 25 years and all the way up to 30 years! It shows loyalty and a strong sense of belonging. It’s indeed a conglomeration of the admirable qualities that make yourselves a success. It's also these qualities that make the University tick. And your devotion is never more needed than this critical time when the university is launching a number of initiatives, not least of which is the new campus project. With the support and solidarity of our staff, we will certainly be able to propel our university into the next stage of development.”

One of the award recipients Dr. Alice Tin joined the University of East Asia, the forerunner of UM, in 1981, and has served UM for thirty years now. When she first joined the university, there were a total of 200 or so staff and students, but now the number approximates 9000. “UM is progressing in various areas, in pace with Macao,” said Alice. “I never for a moment feel bored of working at UM. Being surrounded by many young people makes me happy, and working here injects vigour and vitality into my life.”
