The University of Macau began its On-line Education pilot project in the academic year 1998/1999 as a supplement to classroom lectures. ICTO began providing video services in 1998 to further the development of On-line Education and Distance Learning in UM.

WebCourse (http://webcourse.umac.mo) is an E-learning Management System aiming at facilitating the learning and teaching at UM.

Aside from facilitating the organization of course material on the web, WebCourse also provides a wide variety of tools and features that can be used to conduct a course. Examples of tools include student progress tracking, student self-evaluation, grade maintenance and distribution, navigation tools, auto-marked quizzes, course calendar, course content search and much more.

UMMoodle system is currently the primary Webcourse platform.

ICTO will periodically arrange training for teaching staff and demonstrations for the students.
