Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), with the generous support from the Macao SAR Government and University of Macau, was founded in 2002. The aims of the institute are:

• To develop postgraduate education and train up management and scientific research professionals in the fields of medical science and Chinese medicine;
  
  
• To carry out scientific research in areas such as quality evaluation of Chinese medicine, pharmacology evaluation and medicinal administration;
  
  
• To build up cooperative links with other international institutions and organizations on research and education, gradually making Macau as a platform for international cooperation in both academic and technological affairs of Chinese medical science;
  
  
• To develop industry for new products of Chinese traditional medicine and impel the economy of Macau under in "one country, two systems".
  
  
• To promote the international development of Chinese medicine and the internationalization of Chinese traditional medicine.
