Healthy University Program
As a member of the “Asia-Pacific Network of Healthy Universities” since 2007, UM is committed to build a healthy, safe and eco-friendly campus, an excellent environment for learning, research and work for students and staff. UM has been working hard to promote the healthy lifestyle, as well as to enhance the awareness of campus safety and environmental protection of UM members. Health Ambassador Team and Environmental Protection Ambassador Team, both made up of staff representatives and student representatives, are formed. Different kinds of activities and trainings are being held.Activities to promote the Healthy University Program are being held continuously. Students and staff are all encouraged to participate actively. Through practicing, training, and organizing various kinds of activities, the concept of Healthy University can be placed and bred in everyone’s heart. The promotion can be more effective by working together and gathering wisdom.
As a “Healthy University”, UM devotes the greatest effort in building a high-quality campus where students and staff are able to bring their potential into full play, as we are running towards the goal of becoming a world-class university.
Healthy University Week 2011 (14th to 18th Nov., 2011)
| Launch Ceremony (14/11): Launch ceremony was the most important activity in the Healthy University Week. There were the kick-off ceremony, award presentation, experience sharing by Student Health Ambassadors, magical trick performance, medical tests, etc. | ||
| "How to Avoid from Becoming Victims of Computer Crimes" Seminar (15/11): Representative from Judiciary Police introduced how to prevent computer crimes. | "Feel Great to Save Energy" (15 & 17/11): Participants learned how to conserve energy with Flash mini games. | "Let's Recycle, Let's Change" & "Toys are Collected" (15 & 17/11): Plastic bottles, used CDs and old toys were collected. |
| Environmental Protection Knowledge Competition (16/11): Students answered questions about environmental protection and competed for prizes. | Strolling in the Residential Colleges (16/11): Participants visited the 2 Residential Colleges and did some physical exercises. | “Knowledge about Wearing Contact Lenses” Seminar (17/11): An optometrist introduced how to wear contact lenses properly. |
| Environmental Protection Knowledge Debating Exhibition Match (18/11): Debate teams hosted an exciting debating exhibition match on environmental protection. | 3D Pavement Art Display (15-18/11): Ocular illusion was demonstrated with 3D pavement art. | Exhibition (whole week): Exhibition boards about health, safety and environmental protection were placed on campus. |
Healthy University Week 2010 (15th to 19th Nov., 2010)
| Launch Ceremony (15/11): Staff, students and guests gathered at Tai Fung Building Foyer to participate in the ceremony which symbolized the start of Healthy University Week. There were the kick-off ceremony, award presentation, Taekwondo performance, game booths, etc. | ||
| “Excellent State, Any where, Any day” Workshop (16/11): Grace Chau of SAS taught students how to become the master of their own emotion. | Recycling Makes Better Life (16 & 18/11): Through the activity of exchanging bottles, students and staff were encouraged to use reusable bottles instead of disposable ones. | Healthy Lunch Design Competition (17/11): Candidates designed lunch recipe according to the principles of healthy diet. |
| Live Wise, Grow Life (18/11): Plants and planting accessories were given when staff and students answered questions correctly. | Environmental Protection Knowledge Contest (18/11): 9 teams of students had an exciting contest and competed for the awards. | “Let’s Stretch, Let’s Relax” Seminar (19/11): A guest speaker from Labour Affairs Bureau conducted a seminar on musculo-skeletal disorders and to demonstrate some stretching exercises. |
| Sports Challenge (whole week): Staff and students were encouraged to do phsical exercise at least 3 times a week. | Exhibition (whole week): Exhibition boards about health, safety and environmental protection were placed on campus. | Healthy University Photo Exhibition (whole week): The activity highlight for promoting Healthy University in the past and the beautiful UM campus were shown in the photos. |
