Typhoon & Emergency Arrangements
Guidelines of the Arrangements for Office Hours during Typhoon
When a typhoon is approaching Macao, the following procedures will apply:
When the typhoon signal No. 8 or higher is hoisted
- When typhoon signal No.8 or higher is hoisted before 9:00, the University is closed.
- When typhoon signal No.8 is hoisted during normal office hours (from 9:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:45 on Mondays to Thursdays; or from 9:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:30 on Fridays), the University is closed immediately.
- When typhoon signal No.8 is hoisted between 13:00 and 14:30, the University is closed in the afternoon.
When the typhoon signal No. 8 or higher is lowered
- When typhoon signal No.8 is lowered before 7:30, the University opens at the normal office hours.
- When typhoon signal No. 8 is lowered between 7:30 and 9:00, the University opens one and half hours after it is lowered.
- When typhoon signal No. 8 is lowered between 9:00 and 13:00, the University opens in the afternoon.
- When typhoon signal No. 8 is lowered between 13:00 and 14:30, the University opens one and half hours after it is lowered.
- When typhoon signal No. 8 is lowered after 14:30, the University remains closed in the afternoon.
Notes:
- The above arrangements do not apply to those staff members assigned to special duties.
- The bus service may be suspended shortly after signal No.8 is hoisted. The Macao-Taipa bridges may also be closed, except Sai Van Bridge.
- When typhoon signal No.8 is lowered, the closed bridges will be re-opened and the bus service will normally resume shortly.
- UM Staff members should also, as a normal practice during the typhoon period, listen to the latest announcements about the typhoon from the related Macao Government departments on Macao TV/Radio during the typhoon period.
