List of international affiliations

AUAP(Association of Universities of Asia and Pacific)

Current Position: Founding Member and Ex-Officio Member
A board member since 1995

Established in 1995, AUAP presently has 218 regular members from 19 countries and territories as well as five associate members consisting of regional organizations based in three countries. AUAP aims to stimulate the cooperation among universities in which to contribute the improvement of national systems of higher education, economic, social and human resources development, to mutual understanding and respect among people, and to strengthen their institutional capacity to serve society. University of Macau runs the presidency of AUAP for the period 2006 - 2008.

UNU/IIST (United Nations University/International Institute for Software Technology)

Current Position: Board Member
A board member since 1992

Established in 1992, UNU-IIST is one of the Research and Training Centres of the United Nations University (UNU). UNU-IIST's mission is to help developing countries strengthen their education and research in computer science and their ability to produce computer software. UNU-IIST has a rich network of academic and government partners throughout South East Asia, Africa, South American, the Indian sub-continent, Europe and the United States, especially in Macao.

UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific)

Current Position: Board Member
A member since 2001

Founded in 1993, UMAP is a voluntary association of government and non-government representatives of the higher education (university) sector in the region. UMAP aims to achieve enhanced international understanding through increased mobility of university students and staff. Members of UMAP include 28 countries, territories, and special administrative regions (S.A.R.) in Asia-Pacific region.

IAU (International Association of Universities)

Current Position: Member
A member since 1998

IAU was founded in 1950 which is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions with members from 150 countries. IAU aims to encourage universities and other higher education institutions as social institutions to promote the principles of freedom, justice, human dignity and solidarity, and contributes to the development of material and moral assistance for the strengthening of higher education.

IAUP (International Association of University Presidents)

Current Position: Member
A member since 1998

IAUP, founded in 1964, is an association of university chief executives from higher education institutions worldwide, include 38 countries, territories, and special administrative regions (S.A.R.). IAUP aims to strengthen the international mission and quality of education of these institutions, to promote global awareness and competence, peace and international understanding, and to facilitate the exchange of professional experience through conferences, seminars, publications, and commissions.

US UMAP (US University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific)

Current Position: Member
A member since 2003

U.S. UMAP is a consortium of U.S. baccalaureate degree granting institutions committed to ensuring that their institutions' students develop a broad global perspective and specifically a meaningful understanding of the Asia-Pacific region. Members include nearly 30 countries, territories, and special administrative regions (S.A.R.). U.S. UMAP will provide their students with access to the widest range of study abroad opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.

CRUP (Conselho de Reitores das Universidades Portuguesas)

Current Position: Invited Member
A member since 1995

Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities (CRUP) is based in Lisbon, Portugal that is composed by all the Rectors of around 15 or 16 Public Universities in Portugal, namely, University of Lisbon, University of Porto, University of Coimbra, University of Aveiro, University of Minho, New University of Lisbon, Technical University of Lisbon, Catholic University of Lisbon, University of Algarve, etc. University of Macau was a full-member represented by the Rector or Vice-Rector between 1995 and 1999. Since 1999, and based on the decision of the Joint-Liaison Group between Portugal and China, University of Macau became an Invited Member and will participate in the CRUP meetings when they are held in Macao during the AULP Annual Meetings.

AULP (The Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities / Associacao das Universidades de Lingua Portuguesas)

Current Position: Vice President
A member since 1995

AULP covers more than 200 higher education institutions from Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, East-Timor and Macao, including Universities, Polytechnic Institutes and other Research Institutes as members. They also have Associate Members from Department of Portuguese in local higher education institutions of USA, France, Italy, etc. AULP members in Macao are University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Institute for Tourism Studies, International Institute of Macau (President - Dr. Rangel) , University of Saint-Joseph (former International Institute of Macau) and Asia International Open University (Macau). The Association is run by a Board of Administrators with one President and four Vice-Presidents. University of Macau runs the Vice-Presidency of AULP for year 2005-2011 (in 2 mandates of 3 years each). AULP will hold an Annual Meeting by rotation among Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Macao. Macao has already organized the VIII (1998), XIII (2003), XVI (2006) and XX (2010) Annual Meetings in cooperation with the local higher education members, in particular University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Institute for Tourism Studies and International Institute of Macau.

IAESTE A.s.b.l. (International Association for the Exchange of Student for Technical Experience)

Current Position: Associate Member
A member since 2004

IAESTE, founded in 1948 in UK, deals exclusively with the exchange of students for technical experience including Engineering, Science, Applied Arts, and Agriculture on a reciprocal basis. It is a non-political, independent, non-governmental organization in operational relationship with the UNESCO. Member countries and co-operating institutions of IAESTE cover more than 70 countries/ territories worldwide.

Eurasia-Pacific Uninet

 

Current Position: Member
A member since 2005

Eurasia-Pacific Uninet was established in 2000 for promoting multilateral scientific cooperation, joint research projects, conferences, faculty and student exchange, with a total of 130 member institutions in Austria, China, Mongolia, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea.

APHERN (Asia-Pacific Higher Education Research Network)

Current Position: Founding Member and Member of Steering Committee
A member since 2001

APHERN is a research support network for the Asia-Pacific’s institutions of higher education. It helps share research expertise across the Asia-Pacific, network university researchers, and links business with university research.

PATA (Pacific Ásia Travel Association) Macau Chapter

Current Position: Member
A member since 2004

PATA Chapters will assist in the fulfillment of the objectives of the PATA, which is a membership association acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of the Asia Pacific travel and tourism industry. PATA Chapters are local community organisations of travel industry professionals co-operated to develop travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific area. Recently, there are 70 organisations are Macau Chapter members.
