International and Public Affairs Stream
(Students who admitted on/after Academic Year 2017/2018)
The International and Public Affairs Stream allows undergraduates who are majoring in Government and Public Administration to develop in depth the skills, theories and substantive knowledge surrounding global politics.
After completing the first-year sequence required of all majors in the Government and Public Administration program, students may elect to pursue the International and Public Affairs Stream at the beginning of their second year. Students in the International and Public Affairs Stream take courses that focus on global politics, including International Law, International Political Economy, International Security, and Foreign Policy Decision-making. All students are required to take a certain number of electives offered by the Department of Government and Public Administration and to fulfill breadth requirements by taking courses offered by other departments at the University. In the fourth year of the program, all students are required to undertake a semester-long independent study under the supervision of a faculty advisor, which culminates in the production of a research paper that is orally defended before an examination committee. The independent study gives students the opportunity to draw on the analytical skills and substantive knowledge gained earlier in the program.
