Certificates and Diplomas in Portuguese as a Foreign Language

The Department of Portuguese is an official testing site for the examinations coordinated by the Centre for Assessment of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE), of Portugal. The evaluation examinations correspond to the proficiency levels established by the Common European Framework of the Council of Europe. There are five levels of certificates of Portuguese as a Foreign Language:

CIPLE - Initial Certificate in Portuguese as a Foreign Language
(Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira)
DEPLE - Elementary Diploma in Portuguese as a Foreign Language
(Diploma Elementar de Português Língua Estrangeira)
DIPLE - Intermediate Diploma in Portuguese as a Foreign Language
(Diploma Intermédio de Português Língua Estrangeira)
DAPLE - Advanced Diploma in in Portuguese as a Foreign Language
(Diploma Avançado de Português Língua Estrangeira)
DUPLE - University Diploma in in Portuguese as a Foreign Language
(Diploma Universitário de Português Língua Estrangeira)


The examininations for these certificates and diplomas test general, non-specific communicative competence, of speakers of Portuguese as a foreign language
