This course aims to help students in Chinese pinyin, in understanding daily
vocabulary, in the pinyin of lexical items, and in writing methods, so as to
master daily conversation in Chinese. The instructor will provide students with
massive oral exercises to build up and improve their Chinese pronunciation
skills. The course also helps students to better understand Chinese by
introducing them to fundamentals of Chinese syntax and morphology.

This course aims at helping students in their development of the four Chinese
language skills ¡V listening, speaking, reading and
writing; with special emphasis on ¡¥listening¡¦ ability, and to strengthen students¡¦
ability to communicate verbally with Chinese speaking persons. With the help of
dictionaries, students can understand simple Chinese reading materials, syntax
and morphology. Students will also be drilled to express their ideas in written
Chinese, to improve their pronunciation and to eliminate their Western sentence
structure through interaction with their instructor.

This course aims at helping students to acquire a fundamental understanding of
basic ancient Chinese thoughts; like Confucianism, Taoism etc., and to
understand Chinese liturgy, customs, history and geography. Chinese literature,
calligraphy, painting, and arts will also be introduced, so as to provide
students with a basic cognitive and perceptive knowledge of the Chinese
Culture.
