I currently serve as Chair Professor and Dean of Faculty of Education, University of Macau, and served as the interim Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of University of Macau, China. Prior to my appointments in the University of Macau, I was associate professor, full professor, and endowed chair professor (Curry Memorial Professor) in the University of Virginia, USA, and was assistant/associate professor in the Utah State University, USA. I obtained my Ph.D. (1993) in educational psychology from Texas A&M University (USA), my M.A. (1989) in TESL from the Brigham Young University (USA), and my B.A. (1982) in English language instruction from the Kunming Institute of Technology (China). I have research and teaching interests in educational research methods, applied quantitative methods, education measurement, and inter-disciplinary education research. I served as the associate editor (2000-2004) and editor (2004-2010) of the journal of Educational and Psychological Measurement. I was elected to be an AERA Fellow in 2012 (American Educational Research Association). I have been involved in numerous large-scale research grants funded by US federal agencies (e.g., NSF, IES, NIH) and other funding sources. I have published over 150 journal research articles and book chapters in internationally competitive outlets in the fields of education and psychology (> 100 in SSCI/SCI indexed competitive journals) on a range of education/psychology issues. My research has been widely cited by researchers/scholars internationally (e.g., Google Scholar citations > 12,500; h index = 48).
