Introduction

CPA Australia is one of the largest professional accounting bodies in the world with a history that stretches back more than 100 years to the end of the 19th century.

Founded in 1886 by a group of practitioners dedicated to raising the standards of accounting profession, the vision has continued into the new millennium as CPA Australia continues to lead the way in providing its members with first class professional advice and training.

Today the organization has established a strong membership of over 11000 professionals in Hong Kong and mainland china, complementing 122000 plus members worldwide.

Membership

Associate (ASA) membership of CPA Australia is the first step to becoming a CPA.

CPA Program comprises of 14 education segments and a fully integrated practical experience requirement. The educational component of CPA Program has two parts: the foundation level and the professional level. The completion of an accredited or recognized degree, such as an accounting degree, will often meet all the requirements of the foundation level and allow you to commence at the professional level and enroll as an ASA.

To determine your actual entry point into CPA Program, including any possible exemptions, you will need to complete an online application for membership entry pathway assessment.

To attain CPA status, you must complete the professional level within six years. In order to advance to CPA status Associate members must hold a degree or postgraduate award recognized by CPA Australia.

For UM Accounting Bachelor Degree Students, The completion of an accredited or recognized degree, such as an accounting degree, will often meet all the requirements of the foundation level, can get exemption of the fundamental exams, and commence the CPA Program - professional level

 

To be eligible for CPA status, an applicant must meet all the below requirements:

hold a degree or a postgraduate award recognized by CPA Australia

have demonstrated competence in CPA Australia¡¯s prescribed foundation level knowledge

have successfully completed CPA Australia¡¯s professional level examinations

¡¤         have successfully completed the practical experience requirement - comprising three years supervised, relevant work experience and covering technical accounting skills, broad business skills, leadership skills and personal effectiveness skills

CPA Program

The CPA Program is designed to equip you with sound technical expertise, well rounded business skills and strong analytical and problem solving capabilities that you need for a truly international career.

 

CPA Program consists of 14 education segments and a fully integrated practical experience requirement. The educational component of CPA Program has two parts: the foundation level and the professional level.

Foundation level

The foundation level represents the first eight exams (segments) of CPA Program, and each designed to assess technical knowledge gained through work experience or study to ensure candidates are ready to undertake the professional level of CPA Program.

Professional level

The professional level is made up of six post-graduate education segments and builds on this strong foundation with higher level analysis, judgment, decision making and reporting and focuses on areas that ensure a CPA is valued by any employer - ethics, governance, leadership and strategy.

 

There are four compulsory segments

¡¤         Ethics and Governance

¡¤         Strategic Management Accounting

¡¤         Financial Reporting

¡¤         Global Strategy and Leadership 

Plus two electives must be chosen out of four:

¡¤      Advanced Taxation* or Singapore Taxation

¡¤      Advanced Audit and Assurance*

¡¤      Contemporary Business Issues - available from semester 2, 2010

Practical experience requirement (PER)

The practical experience requirement requires you to complete at least three years supervised, relevant work experience and covers technical accounting skills, broad business skills, leadership skills and personal effectiveness skills to further develop your ability to consistently demonstrate the breadth of knowledge gained through the foundation and professional levels.
