Q & A for SAT

How can I guarantee that I’ll get my first choice of a test center when I register?
Online registration will give you immediate confirmation of your test center seat. Registering early gives you the best chance of getting the test center you want. Test center assignment is done on a first-come, first-served basis, so College Board can’t guarantee you’ll get your first choice of test center, but remember that you can register in advance (as early as May) for any test date in the following school year.

Do I need a collegeboard.org password to register online?
You can use many collegeboard.org features without signing in, but you do need a username and password to register for the SAT online. Using your account, you can:

  • Start a registration and return to it later.
  • Check your test center assignment immediately.
  • Make some corrections to your Admission Ticket.
  • Print an Admission Ticket to use on test day.
  • View an enhanced score report online.

What if something goes wrong in the middle of registering online?
If you experience technical problems while completing an online registration, most likely your information will still be saved. To complete your registration, simply return to “My SAT” and click “Finish Registering” next to the test date for which you were registering, and continue filling out the form.

What if I can’t connect to online SAT registration?
Occasionally, online registration may run slowly or be temporarily unavailable due to updates or other routine maintenance, in which case you should return later to begin your registration.

Can I cancel my online registration?
Once you’ve submitted your registration (and received confirmation or your Admission Ticket), it cannot be canceled, and your test fees cannot be refunded. You may, however, transfer your registration to a future test date for a fee by contacting Customer Service.

Are there browser requirements to support online registration?
To register online for the SAT, the College Board recommends using the following browser versions:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
  • FireFox 1.5 or higher
  • Safari 2.0 or higher
  • Other browsers that should work: Netscape 6.2.3 or higher; Mozilla.

Note: “Cookies” must be enabled to register online. WebTV cannot be used for online registration.

How much does it cost to register for a test?
SAT Reasoning Test Fee --- USD49
Subject Tests Fees --- Basic Subject Test Fee (per registration) --- USD22
Language Test with Listening --- add USD22
All other Subject Tests --- add USD11 each
International Processing Fee (for students testing in countries other than the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. commonwealths) --- USD29

How do I pay?
You can pay by American Express, MasterCard, or Visa.

I signed up for three Subject Tests, but I only want to take two. What should I do?
On test day, simply take the test(s) you want to take. There’s no need to contact the College Board. On the answer sheet, do not fill in the test code for any test that you do not intend to take.

I signed up for one (or two) SAT Subject Test(s), and now I want to add another one (or two). What should I do?
If you want to add one or two SAT Subject Tests other than a listening test, you do not have to contact us. The SAT Subject Test books contain all the SAT Subject Tests given on that date. If you want to take a listening test (offered in November only), you have to contact the College Board before registration for the date is closed. You will be sent a bill for any additional test(s) you take.

How can I make changes to my registration?
You can make updates to your contact information, high school code, and score recipients online and print out a new Web ticket. However, not all the information can be changed online. For security, you cannot change the name you are registered under or other vital identifying information without calling Customer Service. You may be asked for additional documentation to support your request. To change your test or test center, you must also call Customer Service no later than the Wednesday three weeks before the test date. You will be charged a change fee plus additional fees that may apply if you are changing tests.

Can I get a refund on the registration fee if I was absent from a test?
If you were absent from a test for which you registered and want to test on another date, call Customer Service to transfer to a later date. The change fee will apply. If you miss your test day and do not want to test on another date, your test and registration fees, including fees for services such as re-registration by telephone, are nonrefundable. If you were absent from the test, no score reports will be sent; it is not necessary to notify the College Board.

What time should I arrive on test day?
Unless otherwise indicated on your Admission Ticket, you should report to the test center by 7:45 a.m. Testing starts between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.

What should I bring on test day?
The only items allowed during testing are:

  • Admission Ticket
  • Acceptable photo identification, such as valid passport
  • Two No.2 pencils and a soft eraser; NO PENS OR MECHANICAL PENCILS
  • Acceptable calculator (for the SAT or the SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics)
  • For the Language Tests with Listening ONLY: Acceptable CD player with earphones
  • A watch without an audible alarm
  • A bag or backpack to be stored under the desk during testing
  • A snack and drinks to be packed away during testing
  • Extra batteries and backup equipment

When are scores available online after the test?
Your SAT scores are released on collegeboard.org approximately three weeks after you take the SAT. Although most scores are available on the first score release day, a small percentage might not be. If you fall in this small percentage, you will not see your scores online. You will see a message instructing you to check back at a later date.

What would my score report show?
Your SAT score report contains the six most recent SAT scores and six most recent SAT Subject Test scores. It also includes information you gave on the SAT Questionnaire and lists colleges and scholarship programs you designated to receive score reports, with descriptive information about each. (The list of colleges is not printed on reports sent to colleges.)

How do I receive scores?
Most students, but not all, will have their scores reported online several weeks after the test date. On the score release date, which is given online, log on to your online account to view your scores. A full score report will be available to you online about a week and a half later. Your score report will also be mailed to you and to the high school, colleges, universities, and scholarship programs you indicated when you registered.

What if my score reports are delayed?
Scores can be delayed by various situations. If your score report is not available online when expected, you should check back the following week. If you have not received your online report by five weeks after the test date, or your mailed score report by eight weeks, contact Customer Service by phone or e-mail.

What should I do if my previous scores are missing from my score report?
If previous scores are missing from your score report, call Customer Service or write to: The College Board SAT Program, Attention: Unreported Scores, P.O. Box 025505, Miami, FL 33102. Provide identification information, test dates, and previous score recipients to which you want updated reports sent. Reports will be sent at no charge.

How do I apply for additional score reports?
Four score report requests are included at test registration. To send additional score reports to colleges or scholarship programs, use the SAT Score Sender service at http://www.collegeboard.org. Make your request at least five weeks before the date you want your report to arrive. Visit the mentioned website for fees. Once you’ve made your request, it cannot be canceled. The College Board sends a cumulative report of all scores that are available and reportable at the time your request is received.
