The English Language Centre of the University of Macau serves as the official test administrator for standardized examinations such as the TOEFL®iBT, TOEIC®, SAT®, ACT®, and GRE® in Macau. Below is a brief introduction to the tests we currently offer. Please click on the appropriate tab to get more information about registration and test dates.

The TOEFL®iBT is an Internet-based test of English as a foreign language. It is taken by people who would like to study in an English-medium college or university. The test is often required for admission to American universities for both undergraduate and graduate work. TOEFL®iBT covers reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

The TOEIC® (Test of English for International Communication) is a test designed for non-native English-speaking professionals who want to show that they have attained a certain level of English proficiency. Many corporations require prospective employees to prove their proficiency by taking the TOEIC®. Our Centre currently offers the listening and reading components of the TOEIC® exam.

The SAT® is a test taken by high school students who would like to enter an American university for undergraduate work. It is the most common college entrance examination for the United States of America. The SAT covers reading, writing, and math. It is also possible to take a specific subject test. Please consult individual universities for their requirements. This test is administered in a paper-based format.

The ACT® is a test taken by high school students who would like to enter an American university for undergraduate work. The ACT® covers English, mathematics, reading, and science. This test is administered in a paper-based format.

The GRE® (Graduate Record Examinations) is a test taken by undergraduate students who would like to enter graduate study in the United States of America. It is often required for those seeking a graduate degree in the U.S.A. There are three parts to the GRE: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Our Centre currently offers the paper-based GRE®.
