The Undergraduate Curriculum Reform Committee (UCRC) critically reviewed on our current undergraduate curriculum and re-emphasized our commitment to providing an intellectually stimulating and enriching learning experience for our students. The achievement of the above-mentioned objectives calls for a curriculum that affords opportunities for students to develop the capabilities outlined in this proposal. Our new proposed curriculum model has been conceptualized to fulfill that purpose.
To be in line with the mission of the University and to dedicate to whole-person education, a good proportion of general education (or called common core curriculum or life education in other institutions) components will be included in the total number of credits so as to achieve the goal of providing an well-rounded education to students.
The reform is based on the following concepts or values. The proposed curriculum model should:
| Fit with the liberal education and holistic whole-person education philosophy, i.e. "a preparation for the rest of life" | |
Promote personal growth in intellectual, professional, moral, cultural, social and physical aspects |
Equip students with generic and leadership skills |
Broaden the scope of learning, inspire creativity, and encourage appreciation of human values |
Enrich students' learning and capstone experience |
Accommodate the evolving landscape of globalization and knowledge-based economy |
Link with North American, Western European, and Mainland China higher education systems |
Fit with the academic preparation of future new students |
Be flexible in admission and choosing major/minor/subjects |
Fit with expectations of future employers and the requirements for further studies |
