There are more than 6,600 students on campus. UM offers higher education that is challenging, interactive, and highly relevant. Our comprehensive educational and research programmes cover various academic disciplines, giving students the opportunity to learn and grow into world leaders in their chosen fields.

UM boasts an outstanding teaching force comprised of more than 400 full-time faculty members from around the world. Most of them hold PhD degrees, mostly awarded by world-famous universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of California, Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, the University of Melbourne and Peking University, etc.

In addition, the University Senate approved the Undergraduate Curriculum Reform proposal in July 2009. A good proportion of general education components will be included in the total number of credits so as to achieve the goal of providing well-rounded education to students at the University of Macau. The minimum total credit requirement for bachelor's degree programmes has been reduced to 130 to 135 credits. This new curriculum will be implemented in the 2011/2012 academic year onwards for all bachelor's degree programmes. A number of seminars, workshops and consultation sessions on the Undergraduate Curriculum Reform and the new University core General Education programme have been organized for students and staff. These activities aim at providing a better understanding of the latest global trend in undergraduate education, the purposes of General Education, what an exemplary general education course might look like, and ideas for designing, teaching and assessing General Education courses.
