Rector’s Message

Welcome to the website of the University of Macau!

UM is a young and dynamic university. Our university doesn’t have a long history, but thanks to the support of the central government and the Macao SAR government, we seized the opportunities that came with the new campus and developed our own unique talent development strategies.

One of our goals is to help our students ‘know themselves’. We want our students to become self-driven learners with sufficient self-knowledge to answer these two questions: ‘What do I want to do?’ and ‘What am I able to do?’ Apart from self-knowledge, we also hope to help our students build unshakable self-confidence. Because we know that self-driven learners with self-knowledge and self-confidence are the kind of graduates sought after in the 21st century. To achieve this goal, we have implemented a ‘4-in-1’ education model. Consisting of discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, as well as community and peer education, this model allows us to provide our students with multifaceted experiential education ungoverned by the clock. Already, this strategy has achieved some initial success, as reflected in the noticeable improvement in our students’ academic performance, soft skills, and employability. In addition to answering the growing demand of the fast-developing Macao society for talented people, I believe these strategies will also inspire other regions to carve out their own paths in higher education reform.

UM is an international university. We are very happy to see that our international faculty members have brought with them innovative ideas and global perspectives. The research teams led by our faculty members keep bringing forth innovations in various areas. We are not only committed to great scholarship; we also advocate multidisciplinary learning in a multicultural and inspiring environment, with the aim of producing noble, self-reflective, caring, and socially responsible graduates who will become future pillars of society.

We would like to invite you to visit UM’s website and learn more about our university. We also welcome you to visit our beautiful campus and feel our campus culture, which I am sure will be an experience to remember.
